We have to paint the entire interior of our house. Yes, every room. AND lay wood flooring in 2 bedrooms - all before Monday morning.
We have been out of our house since July 16. Our contractor/friend has been amazing. He has done everything within his power to keep the project going and get us back in..... It's all the external forces, inspections, permitting, bureaucracy & finances that have prolonged and crippled the project.
All of this came about because of a small undetected water leak in the kitchen. It affected every room in the house. Everything that was touched had to be brought up to current building codes (house was built in 1962) or the city would not approve or sign off the permits. This includes: plumbing, gas, drainage, electrical panel & wiring, and insulation (meaning if a small portion of a wall was opened, then the whole thing had to be opened, insulated, new drywall, taped, mudded & skim coated/ textured).
We have now cashed out my life insurance, depleted our savings and emergency fund and stretched our contractor/friend to the limit. We need some money. We need to be able to finish the job. The insurance money (which will not cover the whole thing) is tied up in the bureaucracy of corporate paperwork, so we (and our contractor) have fronted all the money for the job thus far. Now, we are both out of cash (we've stacked or credit card as well) and need to pay some of the bills.
If you are a praying person, please pray that the funding comes through. If you are desperately looking for a way to spend some money, click on the kitchen disaster recovery widget on the right and send us few bucks... we'd really appreciate it.
