noticed this pair of kids shoes proper up on the parking stop, socks
neatly stuffed inside. I thought they were cute. Then I wondered what
their story is. Is some child in tears at home because they lost their
favorite or only pair of shoes? Was mom just so distracted folding up
the stroller to remember to pick them up? Will dad be angry or
sympathetic?

Three days ago, little Billy went boogie boarding and hasn't been heard from since. A local jogger spotted the shoes today and reported them to local authorities. Billy's parents identified the shoes as being the same kind worn by their son the day he was reported missing, but DNA test results are still a few days away. Until then, those close to the family of the missing child are hoping and praying for some kind of miracle.
Breaking new development: a large fish, possibly a whale, was spotted just off the coast of Santa Barbara. It had been swimming close to nearby surfers when it suddenly lurched towards the beach and coughed up what local sunbathers described as a "little boy." The child sputtered, then got up as if nothing happened. One bewildered beachgoer reportedly heard the little boy ask, "Has anyone seen a red pair of sneakers?"
Billy and his sneakers were reunited later that day.
