Since early May 2014 I have been off of social media. I deleted Facebook, twitter, Instagram, foursquare and swarm (and many others) from my phone. I also refrained from logging on to any of those services from my computer. Any status updates that have shown up on Facebook since early May 2014 have been automated posts from a variety of sources. Even this status update is an automated post from my blog, and this is the first blog post I have made in very many months. I realized I had a social media addiction, and figured the best way to overcome this was to go cold turkey. The first few weeks were very difficult, and made me realize just how much time I wasted on social media. After the first few weeks though it became easier and I was interacting with real people more. My head was no longer facedown in an electronic device but rather up interacting eyeball to eyeball. I don't know how long my social media vacation will last, but when it is over my goal when I use of any of these services will be as a tool not to feed an addiction.
If you have tried to contact me on any of these services during this time, you have been unsuccessful. If you need to contact me or interact with me I can be texted, phoned or emailed and would enjoy sitting down to a cup of coffee, burger or pizza to catch up with you.
I challenge you to also take a vacation from social media for a while, you may find the additional time you needed to finish a project, read a book, talk with a friend or go on a day trip to a place of natural beauty.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
